The Gutter Clean Company Franchise and How We Back You From Day One

Starting a cleaning business on your own is hard work. Not because the work itself is beyond you, but because so much around it is unknown when you begin.

Without a framework, you are stepping into unknown territory and often only spotting the pitfalls once you are already in them. There is no established brand behind you, so when a customer is deciding who to book, you have no recognition or trust to lean on. You are trying to get funding and marketing moving without a track record, building systems from nothing and putting together a customer portfolio from zero, often while you are also out doing the cleaning jobs themselves.

I went through all of that myself. I founded the business in 2014 as a part-time venture, selling quality gutter cleaning equipment, and moved into it full-time in 2019 after being made redundant from my role as a national sales and marketing manager in the solar industry. I learned the trade and the business the hard way while the sector kept changing around me. That experience is exactly why I built the franchise, and this article follows what working inside the franchise typically looks like.

You still need to learn the work, understand the equipment and build confidence on the job, but you are not starting from a blank page. From the outset, we aim to give you the training, equipment and systems to build the business on firmer ground.

Getting set up with the right framework

Rather than piecing everything together alone, you begin with training, recognised branding, an equipment package built for the work, operating systems that support day-to-day jobs, pricing guidance and ongoing support as questions come up. I built the franchise to take away much of the guesswork, so you can focus on learning how the business runs in practice.

Our gutter cleaning franchise opportunity is designed for people who want to grow a gutter cleaning and external cleaning business.

The aim at this point is not simply to own equipment. It is to start with a setup that suits the type of work you will be carrying out and gives you a practical, supported route into the trade.

Getting set up with the right kit

A new franchisee does not need every piece of equipment on the market straight away.

Your starter kit should normally include:

  • A professional gutter vacuum machine.
  • Telescopic poles with enough reach for your target properties.
  • Gutter-specific heads, bends and nozzles and a length of hose.
  • Basic hand tools for stubborn sections and final checks.
  • Protective gloves, eye protection, suitable footwear and workwear.
  • A mobile phone, charging equipment, external extension lead and a simple job-recording system.
  • Waste disposal bags or containers for emptying the machine and taking the debris away.

For most domestic and light commercial work, we set franchisees up with a reliable ground-based gutter vacuum machine and a suitable set of telescopic poles. I use this setup because it keeps the business model simple, works from ground level, is flexible and quick to deploy, and suits a wide range of rooflines. It also helps reduce how much access equipment is needed on everyday domestic jobs.

The machine is only part of the system. Pole weight, reach, hose layout, storage and the type of gutter head you use all affect how efficiently you work. If the equipment is awkward to carry or assemble, it will slow down every job.

This is one of the practical strengths of starting inside the franchise. The equipment package is put together around the work you are preparing to take on, so you are not left guessing what to buy or spending money on a setup that does not match the plan.

Learning what each job is really asking for

A vacuum and pole system will cover a large proportion of standard gutter cleans, but no two properties are identical.

Before accepting a job, consider:

  • Building height and roofline design.
  • The length and condition of the guttering and downpipes.
  • Access for your vehicle and equipment, along with access to water and electricity if the job requires it.
  • The type and quantity of debris.
  • Whether anything falls outside your usual scope, such as simple repairs or extra equipment hire, which is priced separately.
  • Nearby obstructions or hazards, such as conservatories, extensions, cables or delicate surfaces.
  • Whether the property is domestic, commercial or part of a managed site.

I have always approached this work flexibly, and that is what I teach. We assess the roofline, access and cleaning requirements rather than forcing one method onto every job. For higher premises or complex commercial sites, we arrange cherry picker and platform work. Details of available access equipment can be found on our platform hire page.

As your training, learning, job history and confidence grow, additional services can be introduced through the franchise. Simple gutter repairs, Soffit and Fascia Cleaning, Conservatory Cleaning, Roof Cleaning, Solar Panel Cleaning and Patio, Path and Driveway Cleaning can all sit alongside gutter work. Eco-friendly biocide treatments are useful where organic growth is present too.

As your jobs build up, the focus is on learning which services are most relevant to your area and how those enquiries fit within the franchise model. Early job records help shape that next stage, without having to work it all out the hard way for yourself.

Getting your first jobs and pricing them properly

As live enquiries start to come in, I expect you to be putting the systems into use and learning how different jobs behave in practice. Heavy sludge, plant growth and awkward sections of guttering or blocked downpipes can change the work considerably, so experience on live bookings matters quickly.

You can use our instant quote and booking platform as a reference point for how a structured customer journey works. Customers answer tick-box questions, receive the information needed for a quotation and can select availability online. This helps eliminate the need for most ring backs at quote stage and site visits. Every job is checked and digitally surveyed once booked to ensure all details are correct. This gives a new franchisee a simpler and more organised way to manage enquiries.

What matters most at this stage is not designing your own way of working. It is learning how to use a proven one confidently and consistently as your first regular work comes in.

Deciding what to add next

Once you have a run of job history behind you, you can start making better purchasing decisions.

The next investment is usually about capacity and reach. Extra poles, hoses, gutter heads and collection capacity extend what you can take on, with storage, inspection and access equipment following once the demand is there.

Reliability should come before expansion. A spare hose or replacement part can prevent a lost day. A more efficient van layout can save time on every appointment. A second machine may be sensible once demand justifies another operator, but it is rarely the first purchase a new business needs.

This is where the franchise structure continues to matter. I built the model so that ongoing support, recognised operating systems, training and a route for discussing problems as they arise are there to help you make better decisions as the business develops.

Building a business rather than a collection of jobs

A full diary is useful, but repeatable systems are what make the business manageable.

As the business starts to mature, I want you to be operating with more consistency and confidence. You are no longer just learning the equipment. You are building routine into quoting, job delivery, customer communication and service standards, with the franchise systems helping to keep that structure in place as the workload grows.

Commercial work can provide larger contracts, but it may involve more detailed risk assessments, access planning, site rules and reporting. It can be a strong direction for an operator who is ready to manage those requirements.

One point worth being clear about is that the commercial side is a genuine opportunity within your own area. Domestic and commercial premises both sit inside the exclusive territory, so this is local work open to you as a franchisee, not something held back centrally.

For larger commercial sites, we can also help with specialist work where extra access is needed. The wider commercial offering also goes beyond gutter work, with the right support in place where those services are taken on.

What joining our franchise gives you

Joining the franchise is about more than the equipment. It is about starting with an established model and the structure to run it.

I have built this around a market that keeps producing demand throughout the year, because rain, leaves and blocked gutters are a constant issue rather than a short seasonal spike. Annual repeat custom matters as well, and our instant quotation and booking platform lets customers get a live price and book online at any hour.

Our own custom-built AI powers the whole process behind the scenes, automating the quoting, booking and follow-up so enquiries are handled without you chasing them.

Alongside that, a professional branded approach with uniformed operatives and clean vans helps set the right standard.

There is earning potential of £100,000 or more a year, with room to scale the business and the territory without any built-in upper limit to the model. Across the last 4,500 jobs, the average job value is approximately £208 plus VAT. These figures are projections for illustration and are not a guarantee of earnings.

Our franchise fee is extremely competitive and includes everything you need to grow your business successfully.

We provide an extensive franchisee training programme with induction training, ongoing training and ongoing support as the business develops. The technical training is hands-on, there are exclusive support materials to work from, and I provide direct mentoring to help you grow the business rather than simply get it launched.

We also back that up with practical marketing and sales support. You get access to a private Business Development and Sales Manual packed with field-tested methods for attracting customers and securing long-term work, supported by a combination of online and offline marketing strategies.

What is included:

  • Specialist equipment package with a recommended retail price of approximately £7,800 plus VAT.
  • Vehicle signage, branded workwear, business cards and leaflets.
  • Instant quotation and booking platform with full access.
  • Custom-built AI that automates quoting, booking and follow-up.
  • Three months of Google Ads with expert management, including up to £3,000 of ad spend.
  • Comprehensive training, including induction and ongoing support.
  • A step-by-step marketing blueprint and personal sales mentorship.

The franchise exists so that others do not have to start from the ground up in the same way I did. It does not solve every challenge for you, but it does mean much of the groundwork has already been done. My aim is to pass that experience on, take some of the worry and headache out of the early stages, and give you a clearer route into gutter cleaning.

If you want to explore that route, visit our franchise opportunity page and download the prospectus for the detail on what is involved, or get in touch through the same page and I will be happy to talk it through with you.
